health in mind was established in 1981 under
the name of Edinburgh Association for Mental Health.
In June 2003 we changed our name to health in mind
to reflect the intention of the organisation to include
the wider issues of wellbeing within its activities.
health in mind is a limited company under guarantee
with charitable status. Our principle purpose is to
promote the health and well being of people who experience
mental health difficulties. We do this by providing
an extensive range of services and by working in partnership
with others.
For information about our projects, select "Services"
from the main menu.
Our work is informed by four key beliefs:
- That society at large should
gain a greater understanding of mental health needs
and issues
- That people have a right to
be protected from exploitation and abuse
- That people with mental health
problems have a right to make informed choices and
to have their views listened to and understood
- That people have value and
are entitled to be treated with dignity and respect
We put our beliefs into practice by:
- Providing services for people
with mental health difficulties
- Sponsoring and acting as host
to small and/or emerging groups
- Seeking out opportunities
for developing creative and innovative new services
- Involving users and carers
across our activities
- Convening the Edinburgh Mental
Health Forum of voluntary mental health projects
- Seeking to undertake user-led
research so as to inform policy and practice
- Providing information, advice
and practice development seminars
- Contributing to policy and
planning
- Incorporating equal opportunities
and positive action in all we do
